Practice yoga while assisted from above with silks. This class practices the same poses found in traditional Vinyasa, Yin, and Power with the aid of yards of fabric hung from the ceiling to help reduce the weight of gravity. You will practice hanging and letting your body weight open and lengthen you while restfully or playfully moving through your asanas. Remember to wear a Tshirt to this class instead of a tank top. This class is NOT heated.
All Levels Flow
Increase strength, flexibility, endurance as you build a series of postures linked together by breath. This class generally moves through poses faster than Power Yoga Classes and can be very cardio vascular in nature. Both modifications and challenges to the poses are offered to make the class appropriate for students of varying levels. We have both heated and non heated versions of this class to help deepen your practice. Please check the schedule.
Ashtanga Primary Series – Led
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is the first yoga practice brought to the west that linked movement with breath. It is considered the foundation of many “flow” yoga classes today, including Vinyasa and Power. This practice is different, however because the order of asanas is completely predefined. Your practice will comprise four main parts: an “opening sequence,” one of the six main “series”, and a closing sequence (which includes backbends, inversions and time to meditate). This class is NOT heated. This class can be made for beginner to advanced practitioners and we practice in the style that Pattabhi Jois and his only son, Manju Jois, prescribe. Jennifer has practiced under Manju Jois for 5 + years. She and her teachers will assess the class and lead a series based on needs and requests.
Gentle Yoga will ease you into the world of yoga, whatever your age and ability. If you are living with chronic pain–such as arthritis, osteoporosis, stiff joints–or just if you’re out of shape, this adaptive yoga class is easy, effective, and relaxing. The class comprises modified yoga poses, which help relieve stiffness, reduce pain and fatigue, and improve muscle and bone strength. Some of the gentle yoga routines are done with the use of a chair for comfort and safety. This is yoga for everyBODY. You will leave this class feeling better mentally and physically, with increased flexibility! This class is NOT heated.
This class is HEATED. At Yoga East, we believe there is a difference between Power Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga. Power yoga is a challenging practice that builds stamina and strength by using postures (asanas) to help build make you stronger. This means they (the asanas) will be held longer and connected to each other with less rest between. This class is sure to burn more than a few calories! Students should be comfortable moving through poses with good alignment. Appropriate for Ashtanga-style yoga practitioners; Room temperature up to 90 degrees.
Restorative yoga includes soothing poses that are usually supported by blankets, blocks, or other props and are held for several minutes at a time. Although they look peaceful, restoratives can be challenging for our minds! Just because the body rests quietly doesn’t mean the mind will settle into stillness too. Be patient, and be prepared for days when every inch of you rebels. In time and with practice, you will be rewarded with the ability to drop with ease into a place of deep contentment. This class is NOT heated.
A relaxing class where poses are mostly seated or reclined. Students hold static stretches for three to five minutes to help increase flexibility, range of motion, and promote relaxation. Yin is a wonderful complement class to Power, Barkan, or other more active exercises like running or weightlifting class. This class is NOT heated.
The first 30 minutes of class is spent in a flow style class with lots of movement and vinyasa building heat in the body. The remaining 30 minutes is spent on the floor in yin poses that are held from 3 to 5 minutes to facilitate release of the connective tissue for deeper flexibility. This class is NOT heated.
Yoga Flow 1 (A Beginners Class)
This class is the perfect choice for new students or students looking to build a stronger foundation to their practice. This class focuses on classical standing poses, seated poses and relaxation poses. Open to all levels and geared for the newer yoga student so extra time will be spent going over the postures, explanations and safety precautions. This is NOT a gentle class, however, so come prepared to learn about yoga and maybe burn a few calories while you’re at it! This class is NOT heated.
Yoga for Arthritis and Bone Health
Join us for this gentle flowing class that incorporates specific poses and movement to help increase bone density while easing arthritis pain. It is an all levels class that is perfect for all ages! This class is NOT heated.
