Perhaps you have been seeking a way to calm down the squirrels that seem to have taken up residence in your mind lately? During times of high stress levels and uncertainty, it can be very difficult to concentrate let alone sit in stillness, even if we do know how beneficial meditation can be for our health.
Benefits of Meditation
- Lengthens attention span
- May help prevent age related memory loss
- Enhances mental health
- Help to manage chronic pain
This is just a handful of the fabulous benefits of a regular meditation practice. However, with all the chaos that is life, sitting in stillness may not be something you can do easily.
That’s why we are so excited to share the most recent tool to help you quiet your mind. Thrive Yoga and Wellness’ very own Stephanie Chance RYT 200 prepared a 28 minute Gong Meditation for us and we have released it on our Podcast. Although special speakers are not required, and you can listen to this right from your phone, for the best experience, we do recommend listening to this beautiful Gong Session with high quality speakers or head phones.
What is Gong Meditation?
Gong Meditation utilizes the vibrations of various percussion instruments to help bring about stillness. In a live session, you can actually feel these vibrations in your body. While the same vibrations can’t be felt via a streaming service, you can still get the benefits of the various sound waves caused by the gong playing.
Gong meditation is sometimes called a “gong bath.” That’s because participants are covered in the vibrations of sound given off by the percussionist playing the instrument.
The actual gongs come in various sizes, each with their own individual characteristics. They are also made out of many different metal alloys, again, giving each of them different sound vibration qualities.
When you set up for your first gong bath, I recommend getting laying down on your back. This allows you to completely relax and listen to the sounds of the instrument. Even over a podcast, the sounds reverberate through your ears and cause your brain to focus on the various sounds instead of the squirrels.
Inside of just a few minutes, you may find it hard to think of any of the worries that were previously consuming you because you are totally enthralled with the various sounds and vibrations coming off the gong. After 28 minutes, you will feel lighter, calmer and definitely more focused.
Go ahead, give this gong meditation a try! Let us know what you think! When the studio doors open again after this COVID 19 crisis, we will be welcoming Stephanie and her gong in for a live session that will be an hour long to truly give you a relaxing and grounding experience unlike any other.
